Important announcement: Handover of the Alliance Secretariat
|
Dear members of the International Alliance against Health Risks in Wildlife Trade,
We are pleased to announce that we have taken a big step foward in the process of identifying the future host organisation for the Alliance.
Since our announcement that we'd be handing over the Secretariat in autumn 2024, we've had a number of enquiries form our large membership and had some very interesting conversation about different ideas for the future of the Alliance. We are therefore delighted to inform you that WOAH will be the next host of the Secretariat and your future technical support on Alliance topics.
The handover process began in January this year, and we will gradually transfer responsibilities from the GIZ to WOAH until 2026, working together to maintain our common spirit and develop new ideas. We will, of course, keep you informed and involve you in the development of new ideas. GIZ will continue managing the current ongoing projects and be your contact point until further notice.
While there will be new job opportunities in the WOAH Secretariat team, the GIZ Secretariat team will gradually phase out with a reduced number of staff. At this point we would like to mention that one of our colleages, Dr. Kim Grützmacher, left the team in December 2024. We would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her extraordinary efforts in developing the Alliance.
Warm regards from Bonn,
The Secretariat Team |

Share Your Insights: Contribute to the Inventory Questionnaire
|
|
|
We are pleased to share with you the Inventory Questionnaire, developed by the Human Dimensions of Zoonoses in the Wildlife Trade Working Group! As an individual or organisation representative, your contribution to this survey will help achieve at least two objectives.
1. Create an inventory of human behaviour change/social marketing projects that aim to reduce zoonotic disease risks in any aspect of human-wildlife interaction in the wildlife trade context. Summeries of these initiatives, including links to project sites when feasible, will be made available online as compendium.
2. Assess the need for transdiciplinarity training and capacity building to address the human dimensions of zoonotic disease risks (e.g., public participation, behaviour change, and strategic communications) in the wildlife trade context.
The deadline to complete this questionnaire is February 21, 2025. We kindly ask for your support in sharing the questionnaire within your network, on social media or directly with colleagues who might be interested in contributing. Thank you for your valuable time and support!

The Alliance had the privilege to welcome Prof. Dr. Thijs Kuiken and Mr. Saidal Ali Bah for a special event on highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) on February 5, 2025. Mr. Saidal Ali Bah from The Gambia presented on the country's situation and response towards the HPAI outbreak in wild birds in 2023. This project was led by one of the GIZ partner projects of the Alliance on 'Pandemic Resilience, One Health'. The Secretariat team would like to send a big thank you to the amazing speakers and our colleagues for this collaborative effort.
The Event Report as well as the Recording will be available soon on our website.
