ANNOUNCEMENT: Handover of the Secretariat of the International Alliance against Health Risks in Wildlife Trade

Dear members of the International Alliance against Health Risks in Wildlife Trade,

We are pleased to announce that we have taken a big step forward in the process of identifying the future host organisation for the Alliance.

Since our announcement that we’d be handing over the Secretariat in autumn 2024, we’ve had a number of enquiries from our large membership and had some very interesting conversations about different ideas for the future of the Alliance.

We are therefore delighted to inform you that WOAH will be the next host of the Secretariat and your future technical support on Alliance topics.

The handover process began in January this year, and we will gradually transfer responsibilities from GIZ to WOAH until 2026, working together to maintain our common spirit and develop new ideas. We will, of course, keep you informed and involve you in the development of new ideas. GIZ will continue managing the current ongoing projects and be your contact point until further notice.

While there will be new job opportunities in the WOAH Secretariat team, the GIZ Secretariat team will gradually phase out with a reduced number of staff. At this point I would like to mention that one of our colleagues, Dr. Kim Grützmacher, left the team in December 2024. We would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her extraordinary efforts in developing the Alliance.

Warm regards from Bonn

The Secretariat Team
